Every time you read, watch or hear stories about Africa, it is always negative ( corruption, poverty, hunger, diseases…).

Africans are stereotyped, looked down by many as lazy, poor people. Nobody is looking for us for anything big or trust us.

Despite what the world think, we are not lazy. There are many African talents making huge impact on innovation, business, technology around the globe.

There are many mothers working in the sun for hours to make their children educated.

There are policymakers implementing new strategies for the development of the continent.

Today I would like to introduce an exceptional leader: Dr Elsie Kanza.

She is a Tanzanian economist who has made outstanding contributions to the field of economics and development in Africa.

She is the current Ambassador of the United Republic of Tanzania to the United States of America and Mexico.

She is known for her expertise on the challenges and opportunities facing the African continent.

Previously, she has worked in various leadership positions focused on poverty reduction and economic development:

  • African Development Bank
  • The World Economic Forum
  • Ministry of Finance & Central Bank of Tanzania
  • Economic advisor and Personal Assistant to H.E Jakaya Kikwete (Former President of Tanzania).

She was awarded by the African Economic Society as The African economist of the year.

She also has been publishing several articles and research papers on the economics of development on topics such as job creation, entrepreneurship, and innovation.

When asked about the secrets to her success, key words comes to mind: ”Learn continuously, work hard, be prepared to seize opportunities, humility in team work.”
