Well Done Amos Wekesa!!!

There are lots of myths about the Motherland. For instance Africa is dangerous, full of diseases, violence, extreme poverty, primitive, underdeveloped and lack modern infrastructure, technology…

Today, I would like to introduce to you to a hardworking businessman who market the continent as a premier tourist destination.

He has been involved in many initiatives to attract tourists to Africa, including organizing events and campaigns to showcase the continent’s natural beauty, wildlife, cultural heritage.

He has been actively involved in community development initiatives in Africa, supporting local communities to preserve cultural heritage,promote sustainable tourism and protect wildlife.

He once said:” Africa has great foods, weather, mountains, cultures, rivers, lakes, forests, gorillas, chimpanzees, talents, entertainment places…they can’t market themselves, it’s our responsibility to market them.”

He is a strong advocate for entrepreneurship in Africa and encourage young people to start businesses. He support them through mentorship programs and other initiatives. 

He has been involved in different entrepreneurship programs including the Tony Elumely Foundation Entrepreneurship Program which provides funding and mentorship to African entrepreneurs. 

His name is Mr Amos Wekesa.

Amos Wekesa is the founder of Great Lakes Safaris and Uganda Lodges Limited. They offer tailor made safaris and small group tours to East Africa. The company has won several awards and recognitions for its services. They employ around 250 people, earn million dollars in revenue every year.

Amos Wekesa has an inspirational story, in 2001 with his personal savings of $200, he started Great Lakes Safaris, a tour firm without a single vehicle to improve the quality of tour operations in Uganda.

Today more than 20 years later, it has become one of East Africa’s leading tour company.

Mr Wekesa has received numerous awards and recognition for his contributions to the tourism industry, entrepreneurship, and community development the continent.

In 2014, he was named one of the Top 40 African Business Leaders Under 40 by the African Business Magazine.
